LODGE HISTORY

On May 25, 1844, the Grand Master of Masons in Ohio granted a dispensation officially designating its newly founded lodge as "PHOENIX LODGE #123 F. & A. M." in the town of PERRYSBURG, OHIO.  After meeting in various locations over the years, the lodge purchased land in 1969 for a new Masonic building.  Sixteen years later construction was subsequently begun and the lodge was able to move into the new facility in October, 1986.  A formal cornerstone ceremony and dedication was conducted on April 26, 1987.  The cornerstone is in the hallway entrance area.  Behind the stone is a copper casket containing memorabilia which is to be opened at a future date.

WHAT IS A MASON?

There are many common characteristics of all Masons:

·         A Mason professes a belief in God through his individual religious faith.  Masons include Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc.

o    Although the moral philosophy of Freemasonry is constructed upon religious principles, it is not a religion, nor is it a substitute for religion. However, the foundations of Freemasonry are based upon religious teachings taken from the Holy Bible.

·         A Mason strives to live a life of responsibility, honor, and ethics, and is a person of good moral character.

·         A Mason hopes he can make the world a better place through conformity to the fraternal tenets of brotherly love, relief and truth.

·         A Mason strives to be a good citizen by being true to his country. He seeks to support and maintain the principles of good government.

·         A Mason sees brotherhood as a form of wisdom and fellowship.  He perceives this as a personal relationship in which we owe it to each other to be just in our dealings, and offer assistance and charity to those in need.
